Keeping Our Schools Open

As we prepare for the start of the 2021-2022 school year, the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families remain at the forefront of our work. In spite of COVID-19's continued presence of in our community, we believe we share a common goal to limit disruptions to student learning as much as possible, while maintaining the health and safety of our students, staff, and visitors. To that end, we have several protocols in place to keep our buildings safe, to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19, and to assist us in keeping our schools open five days a week for in-person instruction. 2021 PSSA Results

Official student results have been delayed due the extended window offered by the Pennsylvania Department of Education for school districts to administer the PSSA tests. While West Shore opted to take them in the spring because we felt the results would better assess student learning during the 2020-2021 school year, some districts in Pennsylvania chose to wait until after summer break and give students the PSSAs in the fall. As a result, we have been told not to expect results which we can share with our families until the week of November 15, 2021. Once we have those, staff will mail them to families via the US Postal Service.

Student Device Issues - District Issued Chromebooks and iPads
Students attending in-person classes having issues with their device should see their teacher. Depending on the issue the teacher may resolve the issue, submit a technology helpdesk ticket on the student's behalf, or direct students to the office (K-5)/school library (6-12) for additional assistance.

The District does have a limited supply of “hot spots” that are designed to work with District-issued devices. If you are interested in a hot spot or need additional assistance, please email Mr. Steve Vogelsong at [email protected].  In your message, please include your student’s full name and a phone number where you can be reached. Priority for hot spots will be given to families who qualify for free or reduced price meals.

School Calendar At-A-Glance

This two-page calendar lists early dismissals, no school days, conference days, staff development, and other special days during the school year. If it becomes necessary to use make-up days due to school closings caused by severe weather, this calendar will be updated to reflect that.
