Visually Impaired Services

A Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments or Blindness, often referred to as a TVI, is a special educator, trained to teach students with specific vision loss.  They provide direct and consultative support to the teacher and the educational team to help find the best modifications and adaptations for students' unique visual needs in the classroom.

An Orientation and Mobility Specialist, often referred to as a COMS, is a certified professional who teaches safety in moving about for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.  Their role is to teach safety, efficiency and confidence to be able to travel independently at home an anywhere they need to go.  Orientation is the "where am I?" and Mobility is the "how do I get there".
