2020-2021 Professional Learning Opportunities

The Act 48 Committee, informed by Curriculum Council, began to design academies that reflected your feedback from the spring survey. Then COVID 19 hit, and we needed to adjust offerings based on an online environment. With that being said, some of the opportunities you suggested we were not able to offer because they were face-to-face, however, we are very pleased to present the online summer academy offerings for the 2020-2021 school year. While browsing through the booklet, please notice the arrangement of academies by areas of focus:

  • Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment
  • Technology Integration
  • Student Wellness & Professional Growth
  • Instructional Design: Curriculum Development, Review & Prioritization
  • Distance Learning
  • Committee Assignments

As in the past, we will recognize professional staff who complete three or more days of academies during the summer and each staff member will receive a certificate. For professional staff, this is domain 4 evidence. Hope you are able to take advantage of the many offerings this summer.



In an effort to make the process for requesting summer academies more efficient, the 48 C.A.R.A.T.S. system will be used. Click here or use the related link below for detailed instructions for requesting summer academies through the 48 C.A.R.A.T.S. system. 

Please register through 48 C.A.R.A.T.S. no later than May 22 so that principals can approve registrations in 48 C.A.R.A.T.S. and we can begin to process staff development worksheets. 

Once requests have been reviewed and approved by the assistant superintendent’s office, a worksheet for each professional staff member will be sent via email. The worksheet will look very similar to the one typically used, and it will allow you to indicate your intent to work hours in your classroom or workspace prior to the start of school, if possible. Depending on where we are with the physical opening of school, we may extend this option into the school year. 

Once you have selected your academies or committees, and the activities have been approved at the Central Office, changes to the professional learning plan will only be permitted on a case-by-case basis after communication between you and the Assistant Superintendent.
