I encourage you to take a few minutes to review the following important dates and reminders for the month of February.
February Celebrations
Black History Month
February is Black History Month, an annual celebration of achievements of African Americans throughout history. We will be honoring Black History Month through relevant teaching, learning, and activities in our schools, and we encourage our school community to join us in honoring the accomplishments of black Americans past and present.

National Children's Dental Health Month
Each February, the American Dental Association (ADA) sponsors National Children's Dental Health Month to raise awareness about the importance of oral health. For more information about this year's theme, Sealants Make Sense, click here to visit the District's Dental Hygienist's website.

National School Counseling Week
February 7-11
Sponsored by the American School Counselor Association, National School Counseling Week highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. Please join us in thanking each of them for their dedication to our children and families.

Progress Reports Due
Friday, February 18
As a reminder, parents can print a traditional report card from PowerSchool, simply click the "Report Cards" tab on the left after logging into the PowerSchool website (not available in the app). Report card details for the second marking period were posted on January 31.

No School
Monday, February 21
We do not need to use this day as a make-up since we have been utilizing weather-related remote learning days. Students will not have school. Classes will resume on Tuesday, February 22, cycle day 3.  
Upcoming Events
2022 Academic Bowl Competitions
The Academic Bowl, sponsored by the West Shore Foundation, will begin at Crossroads Middle School on February 3, with our middle schools. Grade level champions will be shared on our website and social media sites following each competition. Good luck to this years competitors.

Physical Activity and Nutrition Advisory Council (PANAC) Meeting - cancelled

Drugs 101: What Parents Need to Know
Three sessions are being offered. Please feel free to attend whichever evening best fits your schedule. 
Tuesday, February 8, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Red Land High School Auditorium
Wednesday, February 16, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Cedar Cliff High School Auditorium
Thursday, February 24, 6:30-8:30 p.m., Allen Middle School Auditorium
This FREE, two-hour program, presented by Byrnes Health Education and sponsored by the West Shore Foundation, will focus on the signs, symptoms, and current trends relative to the use of tobacco/vaping, alcohol, marijuana, inhalants, heroin, and synthetic drugs by teenagers. Additionally, to assist adults in identifying how teens may hide substance use, a mock bedroom will be set up with drug and alcohol paraphernalia. Mamma Mia! presented by Red Land High School  
February 24, 25, and 26, at 7 p.m. and February 27, at 2 p.m., Red Land High School Auditorium
Senior Citizen Matinee on February 23, 2:30 p.m. - No cost for senior citizens. General Admission.

General Reminders
Kindergarten Registration is NOW Open
The District is currently accepting kindergarten registrations for the 2022-2023 school year. If you have a child who will be five years old before October 1, please check our registration page for directions on how to complete their enrollment process online. 

We're Seeking for YOUR Feedback on Next Year's School Calendar
Deadline for Submitting Comments is Monday, February 7
The District is seeking your feedback regarding a proposed calendar for the 2022-2023 school year.  After reviewing suggestions received, the Board will likely take action on approval of a calendar at its meeting on February 17, 2022.  Click here to view the calendar and provide your feedback.
