A brief summary of the topics presented and information shared during discussion is provided below.
Curriculum Updates
Dr.
Jamie Whye, Assistant Superintendent, provided the group with some
curricular updates. She briefly outlined the process used to review and
revise curriculum through mini-curriculum committees, which consist of
classroom teachers and administrators. This year’s focus has been on
elementary math and English language arts, largely due to the increased
rigor on the state assessments. Several discussions have been held
regarding math placement criteria at all levels.
Dr. Whye also
discussed the process for evaluating and purchasing textbooks for the
elementary math program to be implemented during the 2015-2016 school
year, pending Board approval.
On a final note, Dr. Whye asked
members for their input on what they would like to see made available
to parents on the District’s curriculum website. Members of the
community are also being asked for their feedback. Please email
suggestions on what you would like to see available to Dr. Whye at [email protected].
Other Updates
Dr.
Stoltz reviewed several topics, including the 2015-2016 school
calendar, marching band update, and mini-THON events at Cedar Cliff and
Red Land.
Community members are reminded they can submit ideas for future topics of discussion to any District Voice representative.
