Back to School!
Posted 8/25/2018 at 4:55:36 PM by Christopher Stine [staff member]
Hello Fairview family!
It's time to get back to school and I am one excited principal!
Summer provides an opportunity to take a breath and reenergize for the coming school year. For me its also a time to reflect on the past school year and think about ideas for the new one. What went well? What could have gone better? How do I need to lead differently to make our school an even better place for kids in 2018-2019? These are all questions that I pondered over the summer and were also things that the Fairview team talked about at our opening staff meeting. Ultimately it always comes down to one thing- What do we need to do to make sure all of our students get what they need to be successful? Success looks different for every student and our staff understands and embraces the challenge of helping our kids to set goals for themselves, determine how they are going to work towards achieving their goals, and how to measure success. They understand that every child comes to school with their own perspectives and experiences and that the most effective way to help children maximize their potential is through authentic, student centered, personalized tasks that meet children where they are and move them forward.
When Fairview's students enter our doors on Monday, they will begin a school year that will be full of fantastic experiences, challenges and triumphs. I hope they enjoy the journey, I know we will!
Thank you for all you do to get them ready and to support them throughout the year.
Happy new year!

Spring Update
Posted 4/23/2018 at 12:13:38 PM by Christopher Stine [staff member]
Hello Fairview Families!
It's late April and we are finally beginning to see some spring weather. Despite Spring's reluctance to stay put for a while, we are knee deep in spring activities at Fairview. April is testing month across the state and our 3rd thru 5th graders are finishing up their tests in English Language Arts, Math and the 4th graders are also testing in Science. Although taking the PSSA's can sometimes be tedious and stressful for some students, our students have maintained a positive attitude and have shown wonderful energy and enthusiasm towards doing their very best on these assessments. Way to go Fairview!
Some exciting events that have happened since my last post...
  • Fairivew students participated in an Artist In Residency program. Artist Judeth Hawkins visited Fairview a total of four times  and worked with all of our students. The students worked on creating a sculpture out of recycled materials. They had a great experience and we thank the PTO for arranging this experience for our kids.
  • In our ongoing efforts to have a safe environment for students, Fairview conducted its "Run-HIde-FIght" drill on March 15 where we pracitced hiding. All schools in the district participated in this drill and, again, Fairview students were extremely well behaved and took the drill seriously. Hats off to them and to their teachers for preparing them for the drill in an age appropriate way.
  • Our PTO held a talent show where many of the Fairview students performed a variety of acts. It was a great event and it was wonderful to see the students performing and having such a great time.

Here are some reminders for upcoming events and general info:
Tuesday, May 1   Open House @ 5:00-6:00pm
Tuesday, May 1   Last PTO Meeting @ 6:00pm
Monday, May 14   Spring music concert @ 7:00am at Allen MS
Friday, May 18   Fairview Field Day
Friday, May 18   PTO Spring Fun Night & Book Fair @ 5:00pm
Wednesday, May 23   Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast @ 8:00am
Friday, June 1   Last day for students!

There are also lots of field trips and end of year events planned for each grade level, look for information from your child's teacher about those  dates and times.

As always, feel free to contact us here at school if you have any questions. Have a wonderful Spring!

February Update
Posted 2/21/2018 at 11:59:33 AM by Christopher Stine [staff member]
Well it's nearing the end of February and we are plugging away. So much illness this winter- we will be happy to see flu season come to an end! For those of you whose families were affected by flu this winter, we hope you're on the mend and getting back to doing the things you love.
I continue to be amazed by and honored to be a part of the Fairview community. We are so blessed with wonderful students and tremendously dedicated staff. Our students are in the middle of raising money for their Mini Thon, which is coming up on March 2. It is such a joy to see the students working towards such a worthy cause and to see our teachers working to help them understand the importance of working towards a cause that extends beyond their little corner of the world. It's a valuable lesson for all of  us! Mrs. Stupka, Mrs. Bergenstock and our student council members are leading the way and making us proud.
STEM Night was fabulous and I am grateful to everyone that helped to make that a successful event. So many volunteers and dedicated staff came together to make the event a success. Students were engaged throughout the evening in various activities in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. In addition to our adult volunteers and staff members, we had several high school students lend their talents to help our students have a great night. Thanks to all!
Our 4th and 5th grade Academic Bowl team members made us proud earlier this month with their strong performances at the annual competition. The academic bowl competition is an intense event that requires a lot of preparation and we want to thank our all their hard work and also our advisors, Mrs. Lund and Mrs. Estep for helping them to prepare.
These are just a snapshot of some of the awesome things that have been happening at Fairview! I will post again soon with another update.
Best Wishes!
