Summer Office Hours - June 12-August 11

From Monday, June 12, through Friday, August 11, all District schools and the Administration Center will be open Monday through Thursday and closed on Fridays. District offices will also be closed July 4 in honor of Independence Day. Due to summer trainings and staff vacation time, hours at the individual schools will vary each day. Please contact the building prior to your visit to confirm someone will be available to assist you.

Celebrating the Class of 2023

We are honored to celebrate the accomplishments of our graduating high school students with Commencement Ceremonies on Saturday, June 3, at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center. Red Land High School's ceremony will take place first at 10 a.m. with CedarCliff High School's ceremony following at 1:30 p.m. Click here for more details.

Proposed Future Ready Comprehensive Plan for 2023-2026

Every three years, we develop a comprehensive plan to identify our specific goals and outline a detailed plan to achieve them. On May 11, 2023, the District's Proposed Future Ready Comprehensive Plan for 2023-2026 was shared with the Board, and as always, we welcome community feedback and involvement in making these plans a reality. Elementary Attendance Boundary Plan Presentation

Due to current and projected future enrollment related to residential development and the shift of fifth grade students to the new intermediate schools, elementary attendance boundary changes are required and may impact the elementary school your child attends. On Thursday, April 20, an informational presentation will be made to the Board. It is important to note that the Board will not be taking any official action on the elementary attendance boundary changes at this time. The presentation is being shared as informational only to gather feedback and continue discussion.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. The goal of this month is to break the stigma around mental health and encourage people to seek help. In support of Mental Health Awareness Month and our ongoing commitment to the well-being of our students, staff, and families, we have partnered with Care Solace to provide an additional layer of care for our community.

New Assistant Superintendent Announcement – April 20, 2023

We are delighted to announce the selection of Mr. Mathew Gay as the next Assistant Superintendent of the West Shore School District. On April 20, the Board of School Directors unanimously approved his appointment to replace Dr. Jamie Whye who is retiring in June following nine years of service to the District.

Summer School Applications Now Being Accepted

The West Shore School District is offering online summer remediation and acceleration courses at NO COST to students or their families this year. Credit Acceleration courses will run from  May 30 - July 26, 2023 and Credit Recovery course from June 14 – July 26, 2023. Interested students must complete all requested information on the online application to register. Click here for more details about this year's offerings.

Sign Up Now for our Summer 2023 Music Programs

This summer, West Shore's music department will offer two options for continued music study for strings and instrumental band students. Both programs are available to instrumentalists playing violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, horn, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba, and percussion.

Free Meals This Summer - June 12 - August 10

To ensure our children continue receiving meals throughout the summer months, we are once again offering a free summer meals program! From June 12 through August 10, all kids up to age 18 can receive free breakfast and lunch on Mondays through Thursdays regardless of their family’s economic status or school district of residence.

The District's Bookmobile is back this summer! Children in pre-school through high school are invited to join us at one or more of the locations to pick out a free book. Special thanks to our volunteer drivers and host sites for helping us Drive Literacy Home!

2023-2024 School Calendar Approved

At its meeting on February 16, the Board approved an academic calendar for the 2023-2024 school year. Next school year for students will begin on August 28, 2023 and end on June 7, 2024. Since approval of the calendar, it was decided that graduation for the class of 2024 would be held on Friday, June 7, 2024. Cedar Cliff's ceremony will begin at 3:00 p.m. and Red Land's ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m.
