Important Tax Information

Real Estate Tax

  • If your taxes are escrowed you must send your bills to your mortgage company.
  • Failure to receive a tax notice is not an excuse for non-payment.
  • A self-addressed stamped envelope is required for returned tax receipts.
  • Non sufficient fund checks will be returned and a fee may be assessed.
  • All personal checks must be physically received by the tax collector's office before December 14, 2018 to be accepted. After December 14th, certified checks, cashier checks, money orders, and cash are the ONLY forms of payment accepted.

Installment Payment Option Available
As a result of The Taxpayer Relief Act (Act 1), West Shore School District property owners will have the option to pay their real estate taxes in three equal installments of the full face amount.  The real estate tax notice has been redesigned to accommodate tax installment payments.  The bottom three coupons of the tax bill are for taxpayers who want to utilize the installment payment option.  The top coupon is to be used for full payments only.

If a taxpayer elects to make installment payments, the first payment must be received by the tax collector before August 31.  If the first installment payment is not made by August 31, the taxes must be paid in full as outlined on the tax bill.  If a taxpayer is delinquent on either the second or third installment payment, they must pay the penalty amount on that installment.

Real Estate Tax Address Changes
If the address on the real estate tax bill is incorrect, please contact your county assessment office. If you are not certain which county in which you live, please contact the District tax office at 717-938-9577 or your tax collector for assistance.

Per Capita Tax
If you are a resident of West Shore School District and own your property, a per capita tax bill should be included with your real estate bill. Every resident 18 years of age or older must pay the per capita taxes levied under Section 679 of the Pennsylvania Public School Code and Act 511- Local Tax Enabling Act.

If the information on your Per Capita Tax Bill was not accurate, please complete the form linked to below so we may update our records.

Homestead/Farmstead
In accordance with the Taxpayer Relief Act, if your property qualifies as an approved Homestead/Farmstead exclusion, the following information is applicable.

Notice of Property Tax Relief
Your enclosed tax bill includes a tax reduction for your homestead and/or farmstead property.  As an eligible homestead and/or farmstead property owner, you have received tax relief through a homestead and/or farmstead exclusion which has been provided under the Pennsylvania Taxpayer Relief Act, a law passed by the Pennsylvania General Assembly designed to reduce your property taxes.

Tax Relief Information
The tax relief for approved homesteads/farmsteads is the same throughout West Shore School District.  All approved homestead/farmstead properties will receive $84.80 in tax relief.
