Board Meeting - March 11

The Board met in regular session on Thursday, March 11, with President Kambic presiding.

Recognition by the Board
Board Shout Outs
Dr. Stoltz commended the students and coaches involved in the 2021 Academic Bowl sponsored by the West Shore Foundation. He shared that this year's event was held at Crossroads Middle School and, based on feedback received from parents, coaches, and participants, we are looking to continue holding the event at that location. 
 
Mr. Kambic highlighted the work of Amy Gross, the District’s social worker, in honor of School Social Worker Week and thanked her for all she does for District students and their families.
 
Dr. Stoltz also shared that the District’s Youth Art Month billboards are now posted throughout the community and can be seen currently on the District website and social media pages.

Finance Updates
Mrs. Stuck provided the Board with reports on the 2021-2022 Budget, 2020-2021 Investment Update, Assessed Value Spreadsheet, Budget Status Reports, Capital Reserves Summary, and Rossmoyne Project.
 
2021 Graduation
Dr. Stoltz announced plans for this year’s in person commencement ceremonies. Each high school will host two ceremonies beginning at 6:30 p.m. On Thursday, June 3, Red Land's commencement will be held and Cedar Cliff will follow on Friday, June 4.  The rain date for both schools will be Saturday, June 5.  Dr. Stoltz also pointed out that if circumstances change and restrictions allow the District to safely hold one ceremony for each high school, we will adjust our plans to do so. During the graduation discussion, Dr. Stoltz also indicated that at this time we do not see a safe way to hold a traditional prom this year.  He shared that the District will continue to monitor gathering size restrictions and our ability to hold a special event for seniors.

2021-2022 School Calendar
Dr. Stoltz provided an overview of the 2021-2022 School Calendar proposal and indicated the District would be seeking feedback from our school community again this year.

General Items
Public comments received electronically from parents related to the last remote learning day announcement, keeping schools open, school start times for next school year, and a note of thanks following a medical incident at Allen Middle School, were read to the Board.

Board Meeting - March 16

The Board met in regular session on Tuesday, March 16, with President Kambic presiding.

A recording of the National Anthem performed by Red Land High School's Choral Quartet comprised of Seniors Mayson Bryant, Georgia Halley, Timmy Seiferth, and Reagan Starrett, was played to start the meeting. 

Minutes
The minutes of the meetings held February 11 and 18, 2021, were approved.

Treasurer’s Report
The Board approved the Treasurer’s Report for the month ending February 28, 2021, showing invested and available funds of $44,480,594.65.
 
Communications
Dr. Stoltz indicated the latest legal update from the solicitor’s office was available for Board members.

Dr. Argot shared the Central Treasury Reports for Cedar Cliff and Red Land High Schools.

Board Reports 
Mrs. Crocenzi provided an overview of West Shore Foundation events including the Academic Bowl, Highmark Virtual Walk for a Healthy Community, and Sixth Annual Gala planned for October 2, 2021

Mrs. Tierney provided more details about the West Shore Foundation, including the intent to award innovation grants in the next couple of weeks, and Dr. Stoltz added that the Foundation recently supported Red Land High School Baseball’s Capital Campaign.

Mrs. Moyer highlighted an opportuity through the Cumberland Perry Area Vocational Technical School for students to participate in a Fire and Rescue Information Night on April 12, 2021. 

Recognition by the Board
Youth Art Month 2020 and 2021
Once again this year, the District partnered with Lamar Advertising and our Partners in Education to celebrate Youth Art Month with a community-wide billboard display. Mrs. Fourhman shared a presentation recognizing the 2020 and 2021 student billboard artists, their teachers, and sponsors. A complete list of featured artists and a slideshow of their work can be viewed on the District website for 2020 and 2021.
 
Board Shout Outs
Dr. Stoltz thanked Capital BlueCross for a recent $1,500 donation and gave a shout out to the Food Service Department for providing 419,254 total meals since March 17, 2020.

Mr. Stoltenburg commended New Cumberland Middle School on its virtual performance of A Sherlock Holmes Radio Mystery and Mrs. Tierney applauded the high schools on their student productions.

The Board awarded bids for Art and General Supplies.

Capital Area Intermediate Unit 2021-2022 General Operating Budget
The Board approved the Capital Area Intermediate Unit's 2021-2022 General Operating Budget. 
 
Revised Board Policies
The Board approved revisions to Board Policies 247: Hazing; 249: Bullying/Cyberbullying; 626: Federal Fiscal Compliance.

Information Items
Math Adoption for Grades 6-8
Dr. Whye provided an overview of the process used to evaluate math resources for the District's Math textbooks adoption.
 
ExCEL Virtual Learning Academy
Dr. Whye introduced the District's new ExCEL Virtual Learning Academy and provided the Board and community with information about the process used to develop the academy and its offerings. 
 
Supporting Student Success
Dr. Whye reviewed challenges from this school year and shared information related to the District's plans to support student success.

Revised Board Policies
Dr. Argot shared a potential new Board Policy 622, related to accounting and financial reporting standards stipulated by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Rossmoyne Construction Update
Mr. Sanders provided an update on the Rossmoyne construction process and shared the District's intent to welcome students to their new school on Monday, April 12, 2021.
