Board Meeting - December 2

The Board held its annual reorganization meeting on Thursday, December 2.  

Oaths of Office
The Honorable Scott J. Gross administered oaths of office to Mr. Edward Fogel, Mr. Brian Guistwhite, Mr. Christopher Kambic, Mrs. Heidi Thomas, and Mrs. Abigail Tierney.

Election of Officers
Mr. Brian Guistwhite was elected Board President. Mr. Christopher Kambic was elected Board Vice President.  To learn more about each of the nine School Board members, please click here.

Board Meeting - December 16

The Board met in regular session on Thursday, December 16, with President Guistwhite presiding.
 
Cedar Cliff High School’s JROTC Color Guard presented the colors for the evening. JROTC members included Seniors Liam Dupler and Quan Khoi Ngo with Sophomore Austin Snavely and Freshman Andrew Snavely.

The National Anthem was performed by Seniors Samuel Johnson, Cameron Lobel, and Tannis Trump, with Freshman Riley Emig from Cedar Cliff High School.
 
Minutes
The minutes of the meetings held November 11, 2021, and November 18, 2021, were approved.
 
Treasurer’s Report
The Board approved the Treasurer’s Report for the month ending November 30, 2021, showing invested and available funds of $63,174,309.45.

Communications
Dr. Stoltz indicated the latest legal update from the solicitor’s office was available for Board members and provided an updated on the Health and Safety Plan.   
 
Dr. Argot shared the Central Treasury Report for Cedar Cliff and Red Land High Schools.
 
The Board approved the student disciplinary cases as presented.
 
Board Reports
Mrs. Tierney shared that the West Shore Foundation recently received a donation from Mid Penn Bank for $2,500 through the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program. She also thanked Dr. Whye for her help in expanding the District's EITC program and highlighted some upcoming Foundation events.
 
Mrs. Crocenzi informed the Board that her report from the Capital Area Intermediate Unit meeting would be forthcoming and thanked Mrs. Moyer for her service to the Cumberland Perry Area Career & Technical Center (CPACTC) Joint Operating Committee for the past two years. She also thanked the music staff at Crossroads Middle School for the wonderful music concert and commended our eighth grade students on their interactions with volunteers at the Career Awareness Fair.

Mrs. Moyer recognized Sierra Black, a Junior at Cedar Cliff High School, whose illustration was chosen to be featured on the CPACTC's holiday card.
 
Mr. Stoltenburg shared details regarding a new partnership between the Navy and CPACTC to recruit welders, machinists, and other individuals trained in those career paths.  

Mr. F. Kambic highlighted a recent Board visit to Allen Middle School which included a musical performance by the brass ensemble. Dr. Stoltz added that last spring a Cedar Cliff High School student made some improvements to Allen's outdoor courtyard which serves as an additional learning space during the warmer months.
 
Recognition by the Board
2021 Holiday Card Winners
On behalf of the Board, Mrs. Fourhman recognized the District's 2021 Holiday Card Contest winners. Samantha Richcreek, a Senior at Red Land High School, was honored for her winning photograph; and Jayde Leibowitz, an eighth grade student at New Cumberland Middle School, for her winning holiday verse.
 
Student Speakers
Cedar Cliff High School Senior Sebastian Pagan Tirado and Red Land High School Senior Nathan Smith shared opportunities they had in and outside of the classroom during their high school career. 
 
Board Shout Outs
Dr. Leese highlighted some of the ways our community has given back to our students over the holidays to provide them with wonderful experiences and gifts. 
 
Dr. Stoltz shared his appreciation for all the Middle School Career Awareness Fair business volunteers who participated in this year's event.  He also congratulated Highland Elementary's cast, crew, and directors on presenting the District's first elementary level musical and thanked the West Shore Foundation for supporting the production. 
 
Mr. F. Kambic recognized the Allen Middle School students and staff for their hospitality during a recent visit.

The Board approved bills for the period November 18, 2021, through December 8, 2021, listing checks that totalled $1,988,287.44.

Transfer to Capital Reserve 
The Board transferred $4,467,000 of the General Fund’s fund balance to the Capital Reserve Fund for the purpose of funding capital expenses and/or the payment of debt services.
 
Capital BlueCross Benefit Plan Renewal
The Board approved the Capital BlueCross Fee Summary which includes $37.75 per contract, per month for PPO and HSA Plans, and $28.50 for Senior Plans.
 
Building Level Title I Parent and Family Engagement Policies 2021-2022
Each year our Title I school staff work with parents to refine the building level Title I Parent and Family Engagement Policies. The Board approved updates to these policies for 2021-2022.
 
Cedar Cliff High School Baseball Trip
The Board approved the trip for the Cedar Cliff High School baseball team to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, for the period Thursday, March 17, 2022, through Monday, March 22, 2022.
 
Red Land High School Baseball Trip
The Board approved the trip for the Red Land High School baseball team to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, for the period Wednesday, March 16, 2022, through Saturday, March 19, 2022.
 
Course Selection Offerings 2022-2023 
The Board approved Course Selection Offerings for the 2022-2023 school year. On January 26, 2022, a Course Selection Night is planned for students in grades 8-11 and their parents. During the event, the course offerings and process for selecting classes will be reviewed.
