Family & Student Learning Resources

Starting on Monday, March 30, we will begin distance learning for Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade. Our goal is to provide students and families with learning opportunities they can do at home. These activities are not meant to replace daily classroom instruction, and while we are encouraging all students to do their best to complete the assigned material, it will not be graded

ELEMENTARY (K-5) - 2.5 hours per day
Elementary students will complete lessons each day from home. Students will have low-tech, paper-and-pencil options, and they do not need to have a computer to complete assignments.

MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL (6-12) - 2.5 hours per day
Middle and High School teachers will post lessons online each day, which students will check, complete, and submit. Middle School students will also have low-tech, paper-and-pencil options, so they do not have to have a computer to complete assignments.

SPECIAL EDUCATION (K-12)
We understand that there may be unique challenges for students with disabilities and that this may be a stressful time for our families. Throughout the closure, your child’s special education team will work to provide access to the distance learning framework while supporting IEP goals and objectives. For support, please reach out to your child’s teacher, therapist, or Dr. Ryan-Washington at
[email protected].

Your child's teacher is the best resource to help you with the work your child is completing. Below are additional ways you can access information.

POWERSCHOOL
PowerSchool is the West Shore School District’s online portal for all student information, including report cards, test scores, absences/tardies. PowerSchool is utilized district-wide and updated in real time. Communication preferences can also be set through PowerSchool’s Contact Manager. In this system, parents can review contact information (changes must be made by contacting your child’s school) and opt to receive texts, email messages and phone calls about emergency situations, closings/delays and general information.

During the closure, please contact the building administration if you need your PowerSchool password.

SCHOOLOGY
Schoology is West Shore School District’s Learning Management System (LMS) where teachers and students can communicate digitally. Teachers can post assignments, facilitate discussions, share resources and communicate important information to students. Students can turn in assignments, access digital resources needed for class, take quizzes and participate in classroom discussions.

All high school staff will be using Schoology accounts.  Some middle school staff have not fully transitioned to Schoology, so middle school teachers will use either Schoology or Google to post assignments.
