SCHOOL CLOSURE: Washington Heights Elementary School – March 25-28, 2021

Good evening Washington Heights families,

Tonight, we learned another member of our school community has tested positive for COVID-19. Following recommendations by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and Pennsylvania Department of Education, Washington Heights Elementary will be closed for in-person instruction Thursday, March 25 and Friday, March 26, 2021. And, unless circumstances change and you are notified otherwise, will reopen for in-person instruction on Monday, March 29, 2021.

Meal distribution will not take place at Washington Heights during the closure. Families are encouraged to visit Cedar Cliff, Hillside, or one of our other Grab-and-Go meal locations.

What happens now:

All students will work from home on Thursday, March 25 and Friday, March 26.
Students will return to school in-person on Monday, March 29.

Close contacts will be notified by phone. Close contacts may also be contacted by the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PA DOH).
Individuals who are positive and close contacts will work remotely during their quarantine/isolation period. The District website provides additional information and guidance for families whose child is quarantined: https://www.wssd.k12.pa.us/QuarantineFAQ.aspx

Classrooms and any affected areas will undergo any additional required sanitation and cleaning in accordance with CDC, PDE, and PA DOH guidance.

What you can do:

The CDC recommends you closely monitor your child for possible symptoms for the next 2 to 14 days. The CDC’s website provides a complete listing of COVID-19 symptoms and a self-checker.
If anyone in your household begins to exhibit symptoms, seek medical attention from a health-care provider and notify the school.
Practice safety measures in and out of school, and continue to be mindful of time spent interacting with others and at what distance. The CDC’s website provides recommendations for protecting yourself and others from the virus.
