Free and Reduced Meal Applications
As children return for in person instruction, your child may bring home a letter regarding Free and Reduced Meals and an application. We anticipate being permitted to offer free meals for all children through December 31 and likely all school year; however, as we experienced this summer, guidelines are subject to sudden changes. To ensure there will be no disruption in your child’s ability to obtain free or reduced price meals this school year, you may wish to apply for free or reduced price school meals online by going to the COMPASS website at www.compass.state.pa.us
or completing the application if you believe your family may qualify. Please note, at this time, you do not have to qualify for free and reduced meals or complete the application in order for your child to receive a free meal.
Student Meal Accounts
Meals this year are free. So, if your child has funds in their student meal account, that money may be used to purchase a la carte items when they are available. If a positive balance remains in June for students in grades K-11, we will automatically carry those funds over to next school year. Refunds from student meal accounts will be granted when a student graduates, leaves the District, or a special circumstance necessitates.
UPDATED SEPTEMBER 29, 2020
Until further notice, all students are eligible to receive breakfast and lunch for free this school year. Thanks to changes in regulations, that includes students who are returning for in person instruction the week of October 13, and those who are continuing to work remotely with Distance Learning 2.0.
Free In Person Meals
When they return on October 13, all students will be eligible for a free breakfast and/or lunch at school. Students will be able to choose between the day’s hot entrée, cold entrée, or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Students will be required to take all meal components including a fruit, vegetable, and their choice of white or chocolate milk. This is a change in the free and reduced program from last school year.
We will continue to sell milk and bottled water, but we do encourage students to take the entire free meal, instead of buying just a drink. Unfortunately, following currently government guidelines, we are not permitted to distribute milk only for free. Students must take the entire meal and all its sides.
A la carte offerings will be extremely limited as we transition back; however, we intend on offering more a la carte choices (especially at the secondary level) by November 1.
