Update on Cedar Cliff Threat & School Safety – April 4

Message sent on April 4, 2024

Good afternoon Cedar Cliff families and staff,

Since I wrote you yesterday afternoon, we have been actively working to find those responsible for the offensive graffiti found in one of our restrooms. We’ve increased supervision throughout the building and walk throughs of restrooms. We’ve interviewed students and actively reviewed security camera footage in partnership with our district safety department and the Lower Allen Township Police Department. We are working diligently to ensure a safe and confident feeling at Cedar Cliff.

Earlier today, we found another hand-written threat in a stall in a different restroom. This message was less conspicuous and less specific than the previous message. Like yesterday, the district’s safety department, Lower Allen Township Police Department, and administration all felt it safe for classes to continue as scheduled. We have identified the responsible student. The student will have a full accounting for their action.

Over the years, I’ve written you with some troubling information, and you have always responded with care and compassion and a commitment to helping us maintain a safe and secure environment. You’ve had numerous conversations with your children about the hard things that sometimes happen at high school. You did it again yesterday. Thank you!  Your partnership continues to be essential, and your confidence in us is palpable. Thank you!

Our work is not finished though. Please, continue to remind your children that if they ever notice anything that is not appropriate to talk to you or a teacher or me about what they saw. That’s what they did here. We are so very grateful for their commitment to keeping us safe.

As always, if you would like to talk to me about anything, please email at [email protected] or call the school at (717)737-8654.

You are important!  You are appreciated!

Good afternoon Cedar Cliff families and staff,

I felt it was important to make our entire school community aware of an incident that occurred this morning and to ask for your continued partnership in keeping our school community safe.

At approximately 10 a.m., a student found a hand-written threat on a restroom wall and reported it to school staff. Upon learning of the message, Cedar Cliff administration notified the School Security Guard, School Resource Officer (SRO), and District’s Director of Safety and Student Attendance to assist in our investigation. After consultation with the SRO and Lower Allen Township Police Department, the District felt it safe for classes to continue as scheduled at Cedar Cliff.

While we do not believe this to be a credible threat, we continue to work closely with the police department to ensure the safety and security of our students, staff, and school visitors. Out of an abundance of caution, you will notice an increase in police and administrative presence in and around the school campus throughout today.

We as a school district have a huge responsibility to protect our school community today and every day. We take that responsibility very seriously. Should you or your child have any information that may be helpful to our investigation, please feel free to contact me by email or to call the school directly.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Sincerely,

Kevin Fillgrove, Ed.D.
Principal
