Each year, the West Shore School District participates in Youth Art Month, a nationally recognized celebration of the contributions of young people to the arts. The theme for the 2022-2023 school year is “Your Art, Your Voice” and the District has embraced that theme by working in conjunction with Lamar Advertising and the District’s Partners in Education, to display 18 billboards showcasing student art throughout West Shore and our neighboring communities.

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we inform you of the unexpected death of our colleague and friend, Mrs. Luann Dougherty. Mrs. Dougherty, a health room nurse at Rossmoyne Elementary and Allen Middle School, had been a valued member of West Shore’s team since January 2009.

At its meeting on February 16, the Board approved an academic calendar for the 2023-2024 school year. Next school year for students will begin on August 28, 2023 and end on June 7, 2024.

The opening of the Intermediate Schools, along with the closure of Fairview Elementary, will significantly impact the elementary attendance areas. When the updated boundaries are put in place, all of the elementary schools and middle schools will have boundaries that align with one of the two high schools. On February 9, 2023, Mr. Sanders provided the School Board with information outlining the District's tentative Attendance Boundary Plan. Click here to view his presentation.
