Parking Permits and Driving Regulations

TRAFFIC PATTERN CHANGE WILL OCCUR ON OCTOBER 30, 2017

Dear Red Land Community,

This school year, many parents expressed concerns about the safety of Red Land students being picked up in the back of the school following dismissal. In an effort to address those concerns, we implemented a new traffic pattern earlier this month. While the new traffic flow addressed the issues observed in the afternoon, it also unintentionally created new issues for morning drop off.

Effective Monday, October 30, 2017, Red Land will return to its original traffic pattern for student drop off and pick up. Traffic will enter from Pleasant View Road and exit on Fishing Creek Road.

To ensure all children are arriving to and leaving school in a safe manner, whether that be in a parent vehicle, school bus, walking, or as a student driver; we need your assistance in following these procedures.

  • During normal arrival and dismissal times, pick up and drop off students at the back of the school only.

    • Stopping cars in the grassy area along the Pleasant View Road entrance obstructs visibility of students, staff, and parents leaving the school. Students should not be entering or exiting vehicles along Pleasant View Road.

  • Maintain a single lane of traffic along the back of the school.

    • Double parking creates safety issues by blocking or reducing visibility for children and vehicles, as well as increasing foot traffic in, around, and between vehicles.

Upcoming Traffic Study

On a related note, at its October Study Session meeting, the Board of School Directors discussed the possibility of building a new intermediate school on the lower lot portion of the Red Land campus along Pleasant View Road. As part of that consideration, a traffic study was authorized, and the Administration has taken steps to have a study completed. Results of this study and continued discussions with key stakeholders will assist the District in its consideration of the impact of building a school in that area.

Thank you for your input and feedback regarding the traffic issues. We remain committed to improving these procedures and are confident that by working together, we can achieve our primary goal…a safe start and end to every school day.

With Patriot Pride,
