Letter from the Superintendent - New Administrative Appointments
11/19/2015-12/14/2015

Dear Parents, Students, and Staff,

It seems like just last week we opened our doors to start the 2015-2016 school year and yet, here we are with the start of the holiday season just around the corner.

As we prepare to enjoy Thanksgiving recess, I would like to take this opportunity to express my thanks and appreciation to each of you for your contributions to our District. While visiting classrooms this fall, I have seen first-hand the excitement and creativity taking place in our schools as a result of your collective effort.

I would also like to take this opportunity to update you regarding some administrative changes approved at the November 19th Board Meeting.

After accepting the resignation of Ms. Melissa Resek, the Board appointed Mr. Christopher Konieczny to the position of Crossroads Middle School principal.

Christopher M. Konieczny
Principal, Crossroads Middle School

Mr. Konieczny holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Bloomsburg University and a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Wilkes University. Mr. Konieczny joined the District over ten years ago as a Kindergarten teacher at Red Mill and Hillside Elementary Schools. He then moved on to serve as an I.M.E. (Intensive Management Experience) at New Cumberland and Crossroads Middle Schools before returning to Red Mill and Hillside as an Assistant Principal.

Outside of school, Mr. Konieczny is an avid sports fan.  His allegiances lie with the Steelers, Penguins, Pirates, Lakers, and the University of Pittsburgh.  He and his wife, a teacher in the District, have two children – a three year-old daughter and three month-old son.  The Konieczny family enjoys playing at the park and visiting the beach. They also enjoy family movie nights, which have led to Mr. Konieczny’s extensive knowledge of Disney princess trivia.

Mr. Konieczny, or Mr. K. as many of the students know him, is eager to meet the Crossroads Middle School students, staff, and families.  He is excited to be working with everyone in the school community and committed to making each student’s school experience the best it possibly can be.

Mrs. Amanda Lerew, principal of Newberry Elementary School, is expecting her first child and will be taking some time off to care for her newborn. Mr. Nathan McGlynn has been appointed by the Board to serve as Acting Principal of Newberry Elementary during her leave.

Nathan C. McGlynn

Acting Principal, Newberry Elementary School

Mr. McGlynn earned his Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education from Messiah College and his Masters in Curriculum and Instruction, including his Principal’s Certification, from The Pennsylvania State University.

Mr. McGlynn began his career as an elementary physical education teacher in Northern Pennsylvania and later worked as a middle school health and physical education teacher in the Baltimore County Public Schools and Red Lion Area School District. During the last six years, he has served as an Assistant Principal at Red Land High School.

Mr. McGlynn is married and has three daughters. He loves to spend time with his family, cooking, and attending his daughters’ activities. He is excited to join the Newberry family and looks forward to working with the students, staff, parents, and the community as acting principal.

In addition to announcing these appointments I would also like to personally thank Mrs. Tracy L. Dominick, assistant principal at Crossroads Middle School. Mrs. Dominick, with the support of the administrative team, teachers, support staff, and students, made sure Crossroads operated smoothly and without interruption during this time of transition.

Sincerely,

Todd B. Stoltz, Ed.D.
