Message from the Superintendent | Active Shooter Drill Follow-Up - April 29th
4/29/2016-5/20/2016
As difficult as it is to imagine, schools must be prepared to respond to critical incidents. Based on other tragic events throughout the world, we must now prepare ourselves to respond with a survival mindset. Today Red Land High School students and staff responded to an active shooter incident using Run, Hide, Fight.Following the event at Red Land, the District practiced its reunification procedures at Cedar Cliff High School. Students at all other District schools conducted a lockout drill.
Today’s exercise involved tremendous planning and coordination with many people. On behalf of the school district, I would like to thank the police, fire, EMS, emergency services responders, and all who participated. I would also like to thank our students, staff, parents, and community for their involvement and cooperation in this important activity.
Although today’s event was well planned and I knew it was a drill, I was surprised by its intensity. I encourage you to talk with your child about how the activity at their school may have affected them and what they learned from participating in the drill.
If you or your child has concerns, which you would like to discuss with a counselor, please contact us or Teenline at 717-763-2345.
