Letter from the Superintendent - New Administrative Appointments for 2015-2016

Dear Parents, Students, and Staff,

We are pleased to share the following appointments and introduce you to some new members of West Shore’s administrative team. 

  

Adam C. Bergens
Supervisor of Buildings & Grounds

Mr. Bergens earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Elizabethtown College and also has a Journeyman Electrician Certification. Prior to joining the West Shore School District he worked for over three years in a maintenance role at West York School District and six years as an electrician.

Mr. Bergens enjoys traveling with his wife and two dogs to visit family and friends, spending weekends on the water at Raystown Lake in the summer, and snowboarding in the winter.

In his new position he hopes to continually improve the District’s facilities from a maintenance and custodial standpoint. With the assistance of other team members, Mr. Bergens hopes to ensure all aspects of District buildings and grounds are maintained at a level of superior safety, cleanliness, and sustainability for an optimal learning environment.


 

Patricia S. Craig
Director of Elementary Education

Mrs. Craig earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from The Pennsylvania State University and her Masters in Educational Administration, Principal’s Certification, and Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility from Temple University.

Mrs. Craig began her career as a second and third grade teacher and then elementary principal in the Central York School District. Most recently she served as an elementary principal with the Camp Hill School District and is excited to be entering her 28th year in education with West Shore.

Mrs. Craig is married and has two daughters and a stepdaughter. She loves spending time with her family, going to the beach, watching Penn State football, and reading. Mrs. Craig believes students learn best in a caring community environment where they feel safe, they can experience a sense of belonging, they are made to feel significant, and there is a joy in coming to school every day. She is thrilled to join the District and is committed to serving all stakeholders to ensure a quality education resulting in student success.


   

Thomas Ryan
Coordinator of Safety and Student Attendance

No stranger to keeping students safe, Mr. Ryan joins the District after retiring from a 21-year career with the Harrisburg Police Department. Mr. Ryan’s last assignment with the Department was as its training supervisor.

Certified by the state Municipal Police Officers Education & Training Commission as a General Studies and Firearms Instructor, Mr. Ryan also has 18 years of experience as a member of the Dauphin County SWAT team. He has held various positions on the team and ended his career as the Assistant Team Commander for Operations and Training. During his time with the police department and SWAT team, Mr. Ryan has conducted numerous police trainings.

Mr. Ryan has been a head coach for both the Red Land Ice Hockey and Red Land Soccer clubs. He is looking forward to watching the Philadelphia Flyers and Eagles finally win it all this year so he can finally throw away his very old “maybe next year” t-shirt.


  

Bradley R. Cashman, Jr.
Athletic Director, Red Land High School

Mr. Cashman earned his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education/Health Interdisciplinary Studies from Salisbury University of Maryland and his Master of Science Degree in Sport Management-Athletic Administration from California University of PA. He is currently pursuing his PA teaching certificate from, Wilson College in Chambersburg, in the area of Health and Physical Education. 

For approximately 10 years, Mr. Cashman has worked in college athletics with time spent at Bucknell University, University of Delaware, and Gettysburg College. More recently, Mr. Cashman spent four years with the Borough of Carlisle, managing recreational sport leagues and coordinating special events for Carlisle Parks and Recreation. He caught the coaching bug when he started working for the Borough, as well, assisting both the Carlisle High School and Mechanicsburg High School Varsity and JV Football teams. 

Mr. Cashman is married with a 2.5 year-old son who is already a big Red Land Patriots fan! Mr. Cashman’s goal as Red Land’s Athletic Director is to provide consistency, honesty, and hard work to the student-athletes, coaches, and administrators, and to the families and friends who support Red Land Athletics.

 

  

Melissa A. Resek
Principal, Crossroads Middle School

Ms. Resek graduated from Lock Haven University with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Master of Education in Teaching and Learning.  She also attended Shippensburg University where she earned her administrative certificate.  Ms. Resek comes to the District with over 15 years of experience in the field of education.

When not at school, Ms. Resek can be found spending time with her family and friends. This past spring, she earned her black belt in judo and also enjoys practicing kung fu. 

Ms. Resek is looking forward to building positive connections with the Crossroads Middle School community and continuing to make Crossroads a fantastic place for students to learn and grow. 


  

Meghan N. Sheraw
Assistant Principal, New Cumberland Middle School

Mrs. Sheraw is a graduate of Red Land High School, class of 2001. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education, Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and Administrative Certificate from The Pennsylvania State University. Mrs. Sheraw began her career with the District nine years ago as a kindergarten teacher at Mt. Zion Elementary School and then later taught kindergarten at Fairview Elementary School.

Mrs. Sheraw and her husband Matt love spending time outside with their black lab Bailey. She enjoys being with friends and family, watching college football, cooking, kayaking, and shopping.

Mrs. Sheraw looks forward to working closely with the students, staff, parents, and community members to help prepare the students at New Cumberland Middle School for their future endeavors.


  

Joseph M. Sinkovich
Assistant Principal, Cedar Cliff High School

Mr. Sinkovich earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and his Master’s in Educational Leadership from Wilkes University. Mr. Sinkovich has worked in education for approximately 16 years.  He spent his first two years in the Philadelphia School District before moving to the Hamburg Area School District. There he spent almost 14 years teaching sixth grade at the middle school.

Mr. Sinkovich is a newlywed and enjoys spending time with his new wife, friends, and family. He can also be found watching sports and playing golf when he is not at school.

Mr. Sinkovich’s goal is to become part of the community and give each student the best possible chance of achieving success. He believes that great teamwork is the way we can all reach our goals. Everyone needs a little help sometime.
