SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT - Cedar Cliff High School Will Be Closed September 1-2
8/31/2016-9/3/2016 August 31, 2016 - As an update to the information we provided last evening regarding the presence of mold at Cedar Cliff High School, mold was discovered after investigating discolored ceiling tiles. An inspection above the ceiling revealed condensation from an insulated, cold water, air conditioning pipe as the likely source of mold. Today crews obtained air quality samples to use as a baseline for comparison against air in the affected indoor areas. Following the contractors’ recommended timeline for remediation and follow-up testing, we have decided Cedar Cliff High School will remain closed Thursday, September 1 and Friday, September 2. We are planning to reopen Cedar Cliff, and follow a normal schedule, on Tuesday, September 6.
Following inspection of the entire building, the only two areas of concern were those identified in the West Shore Academy and main office areas. Although we have decided to close school for the remainder of the week, we are attempting to maintain as many normal operations as possible, including transportation for students to attend CPAVTS. In addition, all areas needed to support after-school programs are available for use, and thus, those activities will continue as previously scheduled. As a precautionary measure, District staff members are conducting visual inspections in each school, the administration center, and transportation building. CMI is collecting air samples in each of these buildings, and we anticipate the collection process will be complete District-wide by the end of the week. August 30, 2016 - Cedar Cliff High School will be closed, Wednesday, August 31, 2016. All other District schools will be open as scheduled. At this time, all after-school activities will be held as planned. Buses will be at Cedar Cliff to take students to Cumberland Perry AVTS. However, vo-tech students will need to provide their own transportation to Cedar Cliff. On Tuesday, August 30, late in the afternoon, pipes displaying signs of possible mold were discovered at Cedar Cliff High School in the West Shore Academy area. Upon inspection Compliance Management International (CMI) confirmed the presence of mold in the West Shore Academy and main office areas. As always, the safety of students and staff is our foremost concern. Further inspection and mold remediation will begin Wednesday and be followed by additional testing. As a further precautionary measure, the District will also be inspecting other school buildings to assess their conditions. Please anticipate additional communication as progress is made in these areas.
