Informational Message Regarding Red Land Boiler Malfunctions
On Tuesday, January 2, 2018, the boilers at Red Land High School, which are used to heat the building, shut down unexpectedly. District maintenance staff discovered a low-pressure sensor on the propane system had tripped in error and shut off the fuel supply. We were able to clear the errors, reset the system, and by late morning the boilers had returned to normal operations. School administration and custodial staff closely monitored room temperatures throughout Tuesday morning.
After operating throughout the evening and early morning hours without incident, the low-pressure sensor at Red Land High School malfunctioned again this morning at approximately 6:45 a.m. Maintenance workers were able to quickly respond and restored heat to the building in just over an hour.
Despite rumors the propane tanks were empty, the delivery of propane on Tuesday morning was part of a regularly scheduled delivery and not related to the heating issues. The faulty pressure sensor which did cause the heating issues has been serviced with the assistance of outside contractors, and we will continue to closely monitor the sensor, boiler system, and building temperatures.
