Protecting Against the Coronavirus
wash your hands

Although there are no known cases the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) associated with the West Shore School District, we hope you will join us in taking precautions to avoid spreading germs this time of year.

Just as we do every flu season, we are working diligently to maintain a safe and healthy environment for our students and staff. We will continue with our daily protocols for cleaning buildings and keep our soap and hand sanitizer containers full.

In addition to keeping children home if they are sick and for at least 24 hours after a fever, we are reminding families that the best defense against any illness is practicing good hygiene.

  • Wash hands regularly, especially after using the restroom and before preparing or consuming food. Using soap and hot water, wash for about 20 seconds. Be sure to also wash fingertips.
  • Avoid coughing or sneezing into hands or in the air. Always try to cough or sneeze into a tissue, and then throw the tissue away. If you don’t have a tissue, cough/sneeze into your arm.
  • As much as you can, avoid touching your eyes, mouth and nose.

According to the Department of Health, symptoms of coronavirus are similar to the symptoms of the flu and include high fever, cough, and shortness of breath. If you have concerns regarding your child’s health, please contact his/her primary care provider.  It is also very important to report a diagnosed or a suspected infectious condition to a school nurse.

We ask that our families use the CDC’s website at http://www.cdc.gov and/or the DOH’s website at http://www.health.state.pa.us to access additional information about the coronavirus. We have links to these and other sites on the District’s Health Services Department page as well.

Please know we are continuing to monitor this health concern and, if needed, will be ready to follow any measures recommended by public health and governmental agencies.
