Confirmed COVID-19 Case at Washington Heights - August 20, 2020
August 20, 2020

Good evening Washington Heights students and families,

The District has received confirmation that two staff members at Washington Heights Elementary School have tested positive for COVID-19. Additionally, a third staff member is experiencing symptoms and is scheduled for testing. To do our part in mitigating the spread of COVID-19, we believe it is important to share this information with you.

Since last Wednesday, August 12, 2020, you may have interacted with these employees while visiting the office or during distribution of materials. If you believe you have been in close contact with a member of the office staff for 15 minutes or more at a distance of 6 feet or less, please email me to discuss your interaction. The CDC also recommends you closely monitor yourself for possible symptoms for the next 2 to 14 days.

Additionally, you may be concerned about the materials and devices which were distributed earlier this week. We believe the risk of transmission during distribution was low because COVID-19 is mainly spread from person to person through respiratory droplets. During distribution, volunteers wore masks and had limited interaction with families and students.

The CDC’s website provides a complete listing of symptoms and a self-checker:
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/symptoms-testing/symptoms.html

If you begin to exhibit symptoms related to COVID-19 and/or are tested for COVID-19, seek medical attention from a health-care provider and please notify the school.

As a precautionary measure, we have decided to close Washington Heights through Sunday, August 23 and will not offer Grab-and-Go Meals at the school on Friday, August 21. We have contacted the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PA DOH) for additional guidance, and unless circumstances change, we anticipate reopening the building for staff only on Monday. Prior to opening on Monday, the building will undergo required sanitation and cleaning in accordance with CDC, PDE, and DOH guidance.

Please don’t hesitate to email me directly if you would like to discuss any concerns you have regarding this information.

Sincerely,

Dr. Michele Trevino
Principal
