Message from the Superintendent - Silence is Not the Answer
silenceOn Friday, June 5, 2020, Dr. Todd Stoltz, Superintendent, called all families and staff to share the following message.

Good afternoon West Shore students, staff, families, and community,

Our pledge is to provide ALL of our students with inspiring and relevant experiences so they may live meaningful, purposeful, and impactful lives.

Unfortunately, we have been investigating and responding to statements, social media postings, and behaviors that constitute intolerance, harassment, hate, and racism this week. The West Shore School District neither condones nor tolerates words and actions of this nature, whether online or face-to-face.

While we recognize individuals have the right to exercise freedom of speech, there are limitations on that right when it interferes with the safe, orderly operations of our schools or violates Board policy.

It is important to me that each of our students feels safe, seen, and supported for who they are. And, while I am proud of the work our school communities are already doing to teach students the values of respect, responsibility, empathy, and resilience‚Ķ.we must strive to do more and to do better.

Silence is not the answer. I commend those individuals who have brought forth their concerns, and I encourage each of you to do the same and to speak up when you see hate.

Although the school year has ended, school staff will continue to be available beyond the last day to offer our support. Please take care of yourselves and of each other.

Sincerely,

Todd
