Message sent April 20, 2023

Good evening West Shore students, staff, and families,

I am delighted to announce the selection of Mr. Mathew Gay as the next Assistant Superintendent of the West Shore School District. Tonight, the Board of School Directors unanimously approved his appointment to replace Dr. Jamie Whye who is retiring in June following nine years of service to the District.

With two daughters at Cedar Cliff High School who have attended District schools since kindergarten, Mr. Gay is a familiar face to many in West Shore. He has worked with our sports boosters organizations, volunteered as Junior Achievement presenter, and is a frequent attendee at our athletic events and musical performances.

Professionally, Mr. Gay brings a wide range of skills to his new role and more than 25 years of educational experience. Since July 2008, he has served as the principal of Northeastern High School. Prior to that he was both an assistant principal and English teacher at Cumberland Valley High School. He has also served as an English teacher at Frederick High School in Maryland; an adjunct graduate instructor for Wilson College; a migrant student educator for Lincoln Intermediate Unit, and a teacher in an alternative education program.

Mr. Gay shared, “I am truly honored to have been selected to serve as Assistant Superintendent. As a resident of the District, I have a deep commitment to continuing to strengthen the educational opportunities provided to all West Shore students and look forward to working alongside District staff, families, and community members.”

I hope you will join the Board and administrative team in congratulating Mr. Gay and welcoming him to his new role in West Shore.

Sincerely,

Todd B. Stoltz, Ed.D.
Superintendent
