We're seeking your feedback on next year's school calendar! - Deadline February 1st

The District is seeking feedback from parents, students, community members, and staff regarding a proposed calendar for the 2019-2020 school year.  We invite you to review the calendar (available as an attachment below) and, should you wish to offer feedback, use the link provided.

CALENDAR OVERVIEW
The proposed calendar for 2019-2020 is based on a starting date for students of Monday, August 26, 2019. The last day for students will be a half-day on June 5, 2020, assuming it is not necessary to extend the school year to make-up missed days. The calendar draft shows 180 days of classes for students and 191 teacher days.

Early Dismissal Days - The 2019-2020 calendar incorporates three early dismissals (not counting the last day of school) for students, with professional staff members using these afternoons for professional development and data analysis. This is a change from 2018-2019 when the District calendar had seven early dismissals.

  • February 14, 2020
  • March 13, 2020
  • May 22, 2020

Early dismissals are scheduled as three-hour early dismissals and will follow the same schedule as this year, which is:

  • 10:45 a.m.- Morning Kindergarten Dismissal and Afternoon Kindergarten Arrival
  • 11:45 a.m.- Middle and High School Student Dismissal
  • 12:45 p.m.- Elementary Dismissal (including afternoon kindergarten)
  • Lunches will be served to students in KAP and grades 1-12 following a modified schedule.

Make Up Days - Make up days are those days built into the school calendar to be used if weather-related school closings (snow days) occur. By designating these days as make up days, the District is given the flexibility to use them only if needed. The 2019-2020 calendar incorporates three make up days in addition to the option to extend the school year in June if needed.  Make up days will be used (if needed) in the following order.

  • February 17, 2020
  • March 16, 2020
  • April 9, 2020
  • June 8…,2020

Saturday Graduations - The proposed calendar shows a graduation date for the class of 2020 as Saturday, June 6, 2020, to be held at the PA Farm Show Complex. As is the case this school year, students from Cedar Cliff and Red Land High Schools will both graduate on that day; however, each high school will have its own separate ceremony. One school will hold its commencement in the morning and the other in the afternoon.
