MAKE-UP DAYS for Allen & Crossroads Middle Schools & Afternoon Kindergarten

Conditions at the beginning of the school year resulted in the closing of Allen and Crossroads for a total of five days and three weather-related early dismissals when afternoon kindergarten students did not attend school. On Thursday, September 20, 2018, the Board of School Directors approved the use of the following make-up days:

Allen & Crossroads Middle Schools
Monday, October 8, 2018 (cycle day 6)
Monday, November 19, 2018 (cycle day 1)
Allen and Crossroads will be the only schools in session those two days. Transportation and food services will be provided.

Afternoon Kindergarten (All Schools)
Friday, October 26, 2018, from 12:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Friday, November 16, 2018, from 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Afternoon kindergarten will be the only kindergarten students in attendance those two days.  There will be no KAP or specials on these days so it is not necessary to assign a cycle day for kindergarten. In addition, adjustments will be made to the parent conference schedules for November 16 and November 19, 2018, to accommodate the make-up days.

These will be meaningful days of instruction; however, we understand that families and students may have commitments or vacation plans already in place. If it is necessary to miss a make-up day, student absences will be excused if the student brings a note, signed by a parent or guardian, to school when they return. Please make sure the note gives the date of the absence and the reason for the absence. Students will be expected to make up assignments or tests they miss on the make-up days.

District administration is working closely with the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) to ensure the state requirements for the number of days/hours students are in session will be met for 2018-2019 without the need for additional make-up days or to extend the school year.

Thank you for your patience and feedback as we finalized these additional instructional hours for students. Please feel free to share questions or concerns with the superintendent or your building principal.
