Confirmed COVID-19 Case at New Cumberland - October 19, 2020

October 19, 2020

Good afternoon New Cumberland Families,

Two New Cumberland Middle School students, siblings, have tested positive for COVID-19. These students are in Cohort B and were last in school on Tuesday, October 13, 2020.

Students and staff who had close contact with these students for 15 minutes or more at a distance of 6 feet or less were notified by phone this afternoon and may also be contacted by the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PA DOH).

What happens now:
  • Unless identified as a close contact, students should continue to report to school on their assigned days.
  • Classrooms and any affected areas will undergo any additional required sanitation and cleaning in accordance with CDC, PDE, and DOH guidance.
  • Students who tested positive and those identified as close contacts will be quarantined as per DOH guidance.
  • Quarantined students will complete their school work from home via Schoology.

What you can do:
  • The CDC recommends you closely monitor your child for possible symptoms for the next 2 to 14 days. The CDC’s website provides a complete listing of symptoms and a self-checker: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/symptoms-testing/symptoms.html
  • If anyone in your household begins to exhibit symptoms, seek medical attention from a health-care provider and notify the school.

As the Principal of New Cumberland Middle School, the health and safety of all our students and staff is of utmost importance. Please don’t hesitate to email me directly if you would like to discuss any concerns you have regarding this information.

Sincerely,

Christian D’Annibale
Principal
