SCHOOL CLOSURE: Highland Elementary School – May 4-9, 2021

May 3, 2021

Good afternoon Highland Families,

Today, we learned three members of our school community have tested positive and two are presumed positive for COVID-19. The positive individuals, including two sibling groups, have not been in school since last week.

Due to the current number of active COVID-19 cases and following recommendations by the Pennsylvania Departments of Health and Education, Highland Elementary will be closed for in-person instruction, athletic events, and extracurricular activities, effective tomorrow, Tuesday, May 4, and unless circumstances change and you are notified otherwise, will reopen on Monday, May 10, 2021.

What happens now:
  • During the closure, students will zoom with their teachers following a regular school day schedule which begins at 8:45 a.m. Afternoon kindergarten will begin at 12:45 p.m.
  • Close contacts will be notified by phone and may also be contacted by the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PA DOH).
  • Individuals who are positive and close contacts will work remotely during their quarantine/isolation period. The District website provides additional information and guidance for families whose child is quarantined: https://www.wssd.k12.pa.us/QuarantineFAQ.aspx
  • Classrooms and any affected areas will undergo any additional required sanitation and cleaning in accordance with CDC, PDE, and PA DOH guidance.

What you can do:

For your reference, the District has established a COVID-19 Tracker to share data on active cases, quarantine numbers, and total cases impacting our District. The tracker may be viewed at: https://www.wssd.k12.pa.us/COVID19Tracker.aspx

Please don’t hesitate to email us directly or call the school if you would like to discuss any concerns you have regarding this information.

Sincerely,

Todd Stoltz, Superintendent
