We're Looking for YOUR Feedback on Next Year's School Calendar

The District is seeking your feedback regarding a proposed calendar for the 2020-2021 school year.  We invite you to view the calendar as an attachment below and, should you wish to offer feedback, use the link provided.

CALENDAR OVERVIEW
The proposed calendar for 2020-2021 is based on a starting date for students of Tuesday, August 25, 2020. The last day for students will be a half-day on Friday, June 4, 2021, assuming it is not necessary to extend the school year to make-up missed days. The calendar draft shows 180 days of classes for students and 191 teacher days.

Early Dismissal Days - The 2020-2021 calendar incorporates five early dismissals (not counting the last day of school) for students, with professional staff members using these afternoons for professional development and data analysis. This is same number of early dismissals students have this school year (2019-2020). Early dismissals are scheduled as three-hour early dismissals and will follow the same schedule as this year.

Make-Up Days – Make-Up days are those days built into the school calendar to be used if weather-related school closings (snow days) occur. By designating these days as make up days, the District is given the flexibility to use them as days when students will be physically in school or as flexible instructional days if needed.

Saturday Graduations - The proposed calendar shows a graduation date for the class of 2021 as Saturday, June 5, 2021. As is the case this school year, students from Cedar Cliff and Red Land High Schools will both graduate on that day; however, each high school will have its own separate ceremony. One school will hold its commencement in the morning and the other in the afternoon.

One area we are particularly interested in hearing from you regarding, is use of November 30 as a school day. In the past, the Monday following Thanksgiving has been a day off for students and staff. There is a place on the survey to share your preference regarding Monday, November 30th.

The deadline for submitting comments is Monday, February 10, 2020. After reviewing suggestions received, the Board of School Directors will likely take action on a calendar at its meeting on February 20.

Thank you in advance for your participation in the development of next year’s school calendar.
