Back to School Information - First Day of School is August 26th!

We briefly interrupt summer break, to bring you this important back-to-school information for the 2019-2020 school year!

School Year Calendar & August Events
We look forward to welcoming students back to school on Monday, August 26. If you haven’t already received a copy, the complete school calendar for 2019-2020 is available online (click here).

Dates and times for open houses, back-to-school nights, and cycle days can be found on the online calendar. As a reminder, this calendar can be customized to only show events for those schools of interest to your family.

Bus Schedules & Teacher Assignments
During the afternoon of Monday, August 12, the PowerSchool portal will reopen. At that time, bus, class, and schedule information for all students will be available in PowerSchool. If you are new to PowerSchool, a helpful guide is available on the Parents page of the District website.

In addition, on Monday, August 12, an email will be sent to parents of students in kindergarten through fifth grade with teacher assignment and detailed bus information. Bus information will also be emailed to parents of middle and high school students on Monday, August 12.  Please check your spam/junk mail folders if you do not see this message in your inbox.

School Supply Lists
All necessary materials and supplies for learning in the elementary classroom will be provided by the District. We understand parents often want to supplement those materials, and if they choose to, are welcome to purchase additional items for their students (designer folders, pencil cases, etc.).

Our middle and high school teachers may have recommendations for school supplies and calculators. If your family can use assistance from the District in obtaining these supplies or others (backpacks, jackets, etc.), please contact your child’s teacher or school counselor.

Athletic Schedules
Fall PIAA sports begin on Monday, August 12. Athletics schedules for both Cedar Cliff and Red Land high schools can be found online. Links are available on the high school athletics department pages and on the District's Athletics page.

Breakfast and Lunch Menus
Breakfast and lunch menus for August & September will be posted on the Menus page as soon as they are finalized. The cost of an elementary student lunch this school year is $2.80 and secondary students can purchase a regular lunch for $2.90.

Families who wish to continue receiving free or reduced price meals are asked to submit a new application each school year. Additional information an application materials for this program can be found on the District's Food Services page.

Immunization & Physical Requirements
The Pennsylvania Department of Health has established immunization requirements for students. In addition, Pennsylvania law requires a physical examination for children upon entry into school, in grade 6, and in grade 11. Please visit to the District's Health Services page to make sure your child meets these requirements.

First Day of School Video
More details to come in a future email, but we wanted to let families know we will once again be producing a video of #WestShoreProud students, staff, parents, and pets headed off for the first day of school. Additionally, as we did last year, we will be sharing signs for you to download and use in your first day photos.  Last year’s video featured 260 photos and we hope to surpass that number this year!

Thank you to all who are helping prepare our schools and students for the new school year. We look forward to working with you and your children.

See you soon.
