TWO-HOUR DELAY: Tuesday, January 21 and Wednesday, January 22, 2025

Due to the extreme cold temperatures and potential wind chills in the forecast, we are moving to a two-hour delay with modified kindergarten for Tuesday, January 21 and Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

The forecast for the next two days calls for morning temperatures in the single digits with wind chill factors below zero. As those numbers drop, our concern rises, particularly for determining the safety of students waiting outside for the bus or walking to school. The National Weather Service's wind chill chart is one resource we utilize when considering a delay decision, especially as conditions reach the potential at which exposed skin could experience frostbite. Further, it may take longer to ensure all buses are operating efficiently in the cold weather.
Even with the delay, if your student is a bus rider or walker, we encourage you to make certain they dress properly for the cold temperatures. The expected conditions can be dangerous for students depending on how they are dressed. For students who drive, please ensure they are prepared should they experience vehicle issues or another emergency on the roadway. And as always, parents or guardians are invited to transport their student to school.

Should the forecast cause for any additional modifications to the student schedule, information will be sent out via our automated phone/email/text message system, posted on the District website and social media pages and sent to our local television stations.

As a reminder, on days when school is delayed:
  • Buses/vans will arrive to pick up students two hours later than their scheduled arrival time
  • Schools will open two hours after their normal start time.
  • Kindergarten students will follow a modified schedule with morning kindergarten/KAP from 10:50 a.m.-12:50 p.m. and afternoon kindergarten/KAP from 12:50-3:35 p.m. Buses will pick up afternoon kindergarten students at their scheduled time.
  • Breakfast will be served at the secondary level only.
  • Transportation will be provided for students who attend Cumberland Perry Area Career and Technical Center (CPACTC) following the delayed start of school.
  • Students in ExCEL Virtual Learning Academy/CAOLA will follow their regular schedule.
