What are Math Facts / Rocket Math?
Starts in January
Knowing basic addition/subtraction math facts quickly is an important part of our curriculum. In order to facilitate this understanding, we will be starting Rocket Math in first grade. Math Facts tests will be given twice a week in our classroom. In order to prepare for these tests, students should practice math facts regularly at home, in the car, in the store; anywhere that you can talk for 10 minutes! Using flash cards is also a helpful learning tool for these facts.
Students will get time to complete each test. If students do not pass, the quiz will be sent home for extra practice. If students pass, they will continue on to their next level. Each student will work through levels A-Z and it teaches no more than 2 new facts and their reverses on each practice page. For example in the very first addition practice page, Set A, introduces 1+3, 3+1, 1+2, 2+1, while Set B adds 4+1, 1+4, 5+1, 1+5. Each level then reviews the facts from previous levels. The goal is to reach test “Z of addition and continue then with subtraction” and of course, to master the basic math facts by the end of first grade.
Please let me know if you have any questions and thank you for helping your child practice their math facts!
