Good evening West Shore families,
We recognize families had some difficult decisions to make last spring and into the 2020-2021 school year in regards to the best learning environment for their children during the pandemic.
Today I am reaching out to let you know about the District's plans for next school year and to share information about our NEW Virtual Learning Academy in the hopes that your family will consider returning to the District, whether in-person, on-line, or a blended environment.
Looking Ahead

For the 2021-2022 school year, it is our intent to follow a traditional schedule with students at all grade levels learning in person, five days. However, throughout this school year, we heard from families who are interested in a choice for on-line and blended learning. Based on this feedback and a desire to offer expanded learning options, we are excited to introduce a virtual learning academy to meet the needs of students and families who are seeking an alternative to the traditional in person school experience.
The Expanded Choices for e-Learners (ExCEL) Virtual Learning Academy will provide flexibility in the learning environment and will allow for a more diverse offering of courses for our students, including those in kindergarten through senior year of high school. The design of the Academy was based on feedback from students, parents, teachers, administration, and our experiences from this year.
As you will note by reviewing the information below, ExCEL will offer an enhanced experience from Distance Learning 2.0, including access to onsite programs and offerings like music lessons, swimming in second and fourth grade, boating in sixth grade, etc. To learn more about what makes ExCEL unique, view sample schedules, and determine if it is right for your child, please visit:

Returning to West Shore

We hope after reviewing this information that you are interested in reenrolling in the West Shore School District. If that is the case, please take a moment to complete the following Google Form:
As you can imagine, creating schedules that meet the different course needs of in-person and online students is very complex, and we want to be able to fulfill the requests of all students to the greatest extent possible while allowing our teachers to prepare in advance for all their students. This is why we are requesting a parent commitment selection by Monday, April 5, 2021 at 4 p.m. for next school year. The deadline has been extended. Please make your selection as soon as possible.
Once you have made your selection, your family will still need to register with the District; however, that process does not need to be completed in April.

I want to take this opportunity to share how grateful I am that you are considering returning your child to the West Shore School District. I look forward to reconnecting with you and to working with you to achieve our shared goal of providing the best learning experience for your child.
