Mrs. Keenen

Who Is Mrs. Keenen?

Hello! My name is Mrs. Keenen. I've been teaching first grade at Red Mill for 13 years. I also had pleasure of attending RM when I was in elementary school.
I  enjoy spending time with my family, being outside, reading and learning new ways to engage my first graders. I have an amazing husband who is also a teacher. I have two children. My daughter Annabelle is 4 and my son Cullen is 1. They love being outside (especially the beach), day trips to exciting places, going to story time, reading and using their imagination!
Can't wait to start the year and all the adventures that await us!

Recess and Lunch

First grade recess will be from 11:15-11:45 and lunch will follow from 11:45-12:15. Please make sure that you dress your child according to the weather, as we will be going outside for recess on days when it is not too cold or raining. This means sending a jacket when it is cool out and a heavy coat, gloves, and hat when it is cold. Since we go out early for recess it's often still cold.

Classroom Donations

Throughout the course of the school year, there will be a need for the following items. Your donations are GREATLY appreciated and welcome anytime!

If you would like to send in a treat for your child’s birthday, please notify me ahead of time by writing a note or by emailing me.  This will help to avoid having more than one student bringing in a treat on the same day.  If your child’s birthday is not during the school year, please feel free to choose a day during the school year to send in a treat, but please follow the same guidelines for notifying me.  In most cases, the class will have the birthday treat during snack.  If your child has food allergies, or other food restrictions, please let me know so that I can make sure he/she isn’t eating birthday treats that could cause an allergic reaction.
*Please provide plates and napkins
*Please do not send in items that have peanuts, peanut butter, or peanut products due to allergies.

I believe good communication is very important, both with my students and with their parents. My main source of communication is the See Saw App. I'll be sending home a form to sign up at the beginning of the year. It's easy to use and the best way for me to reach all parents. You can contact to me one on one through the Remind App or email me at
