Fifth Grade Chromebook and K-5 Paper Packet Distribution

Message for Elementary Families and Students

April 17, 2020

Good afternoon West Shore Elementary families and students,

Thank you for your partnership as we launched our Distance Learning program. We recognize that circumstances and schedules are different for every family during this time and appreciate your support.

As you may be aware, the District had plans to provide Chromebooks to all middle school students next school year. Following the Governor’s announcement this week that schools will remain closed, we will be offering those devices now to each student currently enrolled in fifth grade. Fifth grade students will keep the Chromebook assigned to them throughout the summer and use it next year when they enter sixth grade.

Additionally, for students in kindergarten through fifth grade, the District is offering printed paper packets to be completed at home.

It is important to note, although it is not mandatory that you pick up these items, it is strongly encouraged. Our goal is to ensure all students have access to learning at home so we may expand our Distance Learning options in the coming weeks.

How will distribution work?
Thursday, April 23 from 1 to 5 p.m., pick up will be take place at each elementary school.  Please go to the school your child/ren attend. Lower Allen families will pick up items at Rossmoyne.

Fishing Creek, Hillside, Newberry, Lower Allen/Rossmoyne, and Washington Heights families
Use the parent drop off traffic flow

Fairview, Highland, and Red Mill families
Use the bus drop-off lane

There will be volunteers at the school to help direct you to the correct area.

Important Health and Safety Information
Staff will be wearing masks, gloves, and practicing social and physical distancing as much as possible. To assist us with safe distancing, parents and students are asked to remain in their car. No one will be permitted to enter the building during pick up. Our preference is to place items directly into the trunk of your vehicle or an empty backseat.

If your child is ill or you have concerns about their health, they do not need to be present to pick up their Chromebook and/or packet.

Questions about the Chromebooks
As we prepare for distribution to our fifth grade students, I wanted to bring your attention to our “Frequently Asked Questions and Answers” website. The devices given to students now, will be used by them next year in middle school so the information on this page is relevant to their devices. The page also includes information about obtaining internet access at home.

Thank you in advance for your help and support.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact myself or your school principal.

We look forward to seeing you!
