Listed below you will find important reminders and dates for the month of April.

PARENT COMMITMENT FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR - Deadline is Monday, April 5, at 4 p.m.
On March 18, 2021, Dr. Stoltz shared information with current and future West Shore families regarding the District's plans for the 2021-2022 school year. In his messages he introduced ExCEL, our new virtual learning academy, and explained the need for parents to select a learning option now for next school year. Click here to read Dr. Stoltz's message which includes directions on making your selection in PowerSchool.  Please note, we are especially interested in hearing from families who would like to enroll their child in ExCEL for next year to ensure we have time to develop student schedules and staffing plans.

April Celebrations
Celebrating Diversity Month
April is Celebrating Diversity Month, an opportunity to recognize and honor the diversity that surrounds us. It is important to remember that diversity is more than race. It includes ethnic, socioeconomic, religious, and cultural backgrounds and various lifestyles, experiences, abilities, and interests. We encourage our school community to join us in celebrating our diversity! Please click here to learn more.

Calendar Reminders
No School - Spring Break
Friday, April 2 and Monday, April 5
There will be no school for students on Friday, April 2 and Monday, April 5. Classes will resume on Tuesday, April 6, cycle day 1. Grab and Go Meal locations and District offices will also be closed on Friday and Monday.

New Rossmoyne Elementary School Opening 
Monday, April 12
Our tentative move-in date for the New Rossmoyne Elementary School is Monday, April 12, 2021!  As is the case with any construction project, there is still a chance that circumstances could delay the opening, so it is a tentative date at this time. Click here to learn more.

Grades Available in PowerSchool 
Wednesday, April 14
Student grades for the third marking period will be accessible in PowerSchool on April 14. Click here for step-by-step directions on viewing grades online.

Physical Activity and Nutrition Advisory Council (PANAC) Meeting
Wednesday, April 21, 4 p.m. via Zoom
PANAC serves as an advisory group discussing issues related to the District’s Student Wellness Policy and providing feedback on District Food Services. Please contact Dr. Argot, Director of Federal Programs, if you are interested in participating.

Title I and IV DAC Meeting
Tuesday, April 27, 5:30 p.m. via Zoom
If you are interested in participating, please contact Mr. Harrison, Director of Elementary Education.

Progress Reports Due
Thursday, April 29

No School
Friday, April 30
Due to our use of Remote Learning Days, this day is not needed as a make-up day. Students will not have class.


School Board Meetings
Following recommendations to limit group gatherings, board meetings are currently not open for public attendance. Public participation is still welcome and encouraged via email and through our live stream. Details can be found on our website, click here.

Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community Virtual Walk
Saturday, May 22
Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community is an annual fundraising walk that benefits local health and human service agencies. Again, this year, the West Shore Foundation is a beneficiary and will receive 100% of your support. If interested in joining us or making a donation, please click here for more details.

Celebrating the Class of 2021
On March 11, Dr. Stoltz shared the District’s graduation plans for 2021. Each high school will hold two ceremonies. Ceremony I will start at 6:30 p.m. Ceremony II will begin at 8:30 p.m. If circumstances change and the District can safely hold one ceremony for each school, that change will be communicated with students and their families by May 28th.
  • Thursday, June 3 - Red Land
  • Friday, June 4 - Cedar Cliff
  • Saturday, June 5 - Rain date for both schools. Time(s) to be determined based on number of ceremonies to be accommodated.

2021-2022 School Calendar
Thank you to all who provided feedback on our proposed draft of the 2021-2022 school calendar. The Board of School Directors will likely approve a calendar for next school year at its meeting on April 8, 2021. After it is approved, it will be emailed to families and staff and posted on the District website.

Kindergarten Registration for the 2021-2022 School Year is Now Open!
Registration for Kindergarten for the 2021-2022 school year is now OPEN. If your child will be 5 years of age before October 1, 2021, they are eligible to begin kindergarten next school year. Registration is completely online with step-by-step directions on our Registration page. Click here to begin the registration process.

ExCEL Virtual Learning Academy
Every effort is being made to contact families who left the District to attend outside cyber or charter schools to make them aware of our new option for next school year. Your help in sharing information about ExCEL with families who may be interested in returning to our West Shore school family is greatly appreciated.
