Mrs. Wech distributed the information about the Bottle Biography project to the students of Miss Morningstar's class on Tuesday, January 12, 2010. She discussed the three components of the project with the students and helped them find an appropriate biography to read. She also distributed information and a worksheet for the children to use as their guideline for this project. The three elements of our Bottle Biography project are the bottle character, the oral presentation, and the written report.
The bottle should be created to portray the famous person. A one liter or two liter plastic bottle can be used for the base. It is recommended that you fill the bottom inch or two with sand or pebbles to add stability. A styrofoam ball can be used to make the head for this character. Inexpensive materials can be used for the clothing and decorations. Creativity is always appreciated!
The oral presentation should be prepared in the first person. The student is the important biographical character who lived this life. Please dress in a simple costume to portray this person. Appropriate props can also be displayed. Note cards are highly recommended, but please do not read from your cards or report. Usually these oral presentations are from 2-5 minutes in length.
The written report is usually 2-5 pages depending on the amount of information shared and the size of the font or writing. This is expository nonfiction writing, so the sections must be clearly labeled with the headings and pictures can be added. The study guide worksheet has these elements listed for note-taking purposes. A cover with an illustration and lettering in required. Mrs. Wech will explain the bibliography requirements in a few weeks. Please remember to include this required section! Neat writing or typing is expected.
Please review the rubric in the packet for required elements and scoring guidelines for each of the projects. Following this rubric thoroughly will guarantee a great grade!
The entire project (bottle, report, and presentation) is due on February 18th. Presentations will be on the 18th and 19th - so come prepared!
Please start reading TODAY!! You cannot attempt to complete this project without reading the biography! Bottle Biographies do not lend themselves to being completed last minute - do not procrastinate! GOOD LUCK and HAVE FUN!!! Miss Morningstar
