Meet Me

Music Staff

Hello, I teach elementary music at Red Mill and to some of the students at Fairview Elementary School. I teach general music to all students in kindergarten through grade 5. I also direct the 5th grade chorus at Red Mill.

I graduated from Kennard-High School in 1982. In 1986 I graduated from Lebanon Valley College with a degree in Music Education. In 1990 I graduated from Millersville University with a Master's Degree in Elementary Education, as well as an Elementary Education Certification. I have been teaching music in the West Shore School District since the 1987-88 school year.

I am married and have two children. My husband has a music degree and a law degree and recently opened his own law firm on the Carlisle Pike.   Samantha is a freshman at Lebanon Valley College and Matthew is in eleventh grade at Cedar Cliff High School.

Success and Failure

Failure is necessary for success.

If you have never failed then you have never tried anything new.

I believe both of those statements. Failure is part of the learning process for students and adults. We need to take the opportunity to learn from our mistakes. Perhaps we will find a different method for the learning or find a way to put forth more effort. As a teacher I want my students to find the positives in failure and learn to approach a task in a new way or with more effort.

Philosophy on Growth Mindset

Growth mindset is a belief that one’s intelligence can be grown through effort, focus on learning, and persistence. As a teacher and parent I am an advocate for growth mindset.   I believe that all students can be successful learners. Learning is about putting forth effort, showing grit, and being persistent. Successful learners are self-motivated, work hard, and have a desire to learn. Every student learns at a different pace, but can be successful. I believe that all students in my music classroom can be successful musicians if they are motivated, put forth the effort, and have the desire to do well.
