The CMS Big Buddy Program allows trained 7th and 8th graders to pair up with a 6th grader to help him/her feel a part of the CMS community. The role of the Big Buddy includes the following:
Big Buddies will meet with individual 6th graders at least once a cycle during homeroom to help them with current challenges they are having with the adjustment to middle school. This might include helping the 6th grader with organizing their notebooks/lockers, talking to them about any difficulties they are having with school or friends, helping the 6th grader study for an upcoming test or quiz, or just simply being a friend to the student.
Some Big Buddies will be utilized to help out at programs such as 6th Grade Orientation, the Bridges Program and the Lightning Challenge. Big Buddies are also asked to help out at CMS during the summer in order to prepare the school for the opening of the school year.
Requirements of Being a Big Buddy:
Big Buddies will act as mentors to 6th graders and need to be good role models both academically and behaviorally. Big Buddies need to be earning at least Cs in all classes and be cleared by the assistant principal for BOLT/discipline infractions.
